• 20^th - Freeman Robertson Bosley, Jr., the first Black mayor of St. Louis, MO, was born (1954); more than one thousand attended the first Black Power Conference in Newark, NJ (1967);

• 21^st - The first daily Black newspaper, The New Orleans Tribune, published in English, was launched (1864); Mary Church Terrell was elected president of the newly founded National Association of Colored Women (1896);

• 28^th - Section 3 of the Act of Congress authorized the formation of the two regiments of cavalry composed of “colored” men, and those regiments were later nicknamed the “Buffalo Soldiers” (1866 ); NAACP’s Silent Protest Parade on NYC’s Fifth Avenue occurred (1917); The National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders (The Kerner Report) was created (1967);
